A CORONER has warned social media is “normalising” self-harm and suicide following the death of a teenager.
An inquest heard gaming fan Bradley Trevarthen, 13, had become “fascinated” with the idea of suicide before he hanged himself. He watched videos of self-harm online and had talked to friends about killing himself. Coroner David Ridley recorded a verdict of accidental death by hanging, as he said Bradley did not intend to take his life.
He added: “What concerns me about Brad’s case . . . is the availability and access to material on the internet it almost normalises something that is not normal.“Also there is an issue in relation to making parents aware. It is such a vast, changing environment we live in. It is very difficult to catch up.
