Luminous says it was a 'dream come true' to work on Forspoken, but the studio's set to go away for good.

Luminous Productions, the team behind this year's powerfully middling Forspoken, is going quietly into that good night. In a tweet posted yesterday, the studio announced that,"Beginning on May 1," it would"join Square Enix to deliver new, innovative gaming experiences across the globe". In other words, it's being folded into its parent company and ceasing to exist as a separate entity.

For obvious reasons, Luminous tries to present this as a positive move for the company, but there's a trace of something elegiac in its released statement. When Luminous was established, the announcement reads,"[Its] vision was to make AAA games that fused technology and artistry to deliver completely new play experiences. Having the chance to do just that has been a dream come true".

Square Enix said the decision was about"further [bolstering] the competitive prowess of the Group’s development studios" in its, but it's hard not to see this as driven by the muted response to Forspoken, which drew a large

So the studio got isekeid who would have thought?

Unironically, this game would have been better with a silent protagonist.

Deserved. Sorry, but I have zero sympathy for whoever was in charge of the project, and approved the writing and dialogue decisions.

Shame...

Good riddance.

No loss. Meh game at best.

Hogwarts Legacy's haters trippin' right now 'cause this happened with Forspoken instead 🤣🤣🤣

Did I just do that? I just did that. I just destroyed my game studio! I destroyed a game studio with my freaking game, HA HA! Okay! That is something I do now!

I usually don't use words like 'cringe' but my god that dialogue

The best news. Luminous was absolute garbage.

Forspoken talent stays at Square while Shinji Mikami left the HiFi studio.

It couldn't have happened to a better game. The only bad thing about this is that content creators won't have a sequel to use as cannon fodder.

Good. Maybe SquareEnix can go back to creating good games again.

Probably should have let them make the game they wanted to make, the one that was shown off as that tech demo for the PS5 when it was revealed.

ok, if squaresoft gave them creative freedom and this is what they came up with...but still, 1 and done is rough. must've been a large budget and squaresoft has had a lot of recent flops.

maybe next time make a great game with a great story and no cringe dialogue and don't be predictable and maybe you will become a success

Damn if this was a dream, imagine what a nightmare would be.

Go woke go broke PEACE ✌️

They created a bad game. I'd be passed if I was sony.

Sucks for the devs, but Forspoken was ass.

Yes, a dream come true lol

I wonder why

Good. They've literally never done anything except make an engine that never even got used, and a bad game.

Maybe Sony or Microsoft could buy the studio

Too bad for the devs. But lessons learned, I guess

Only thing good out of it was the load speed of DirectStorage

And nothing of value was lost.

Luminous just talked positive things, still getting shit in the comments 🤣🤣🤣

How likely is the engine to be used if all other studios are, to my knowledge, using Unreal Engine or less demanding tools?

Good riddance. We don't even need the full game to realise it's really really bad.

At this point, i encourage all the devs to keep hiring horrible scriptwriters. So lots more games will bomb as horrible as this and Saints Row. I wonder how many failures and wasted money they will endure until they stop with these horrible written dialogues and characters.

Too bad for the devs, but lesson learned, I guess

and nothing of value was lost

I watched a bunch of streams on it, and the dialogue was so annoying that I had to nope out. It might even be on par with Steve from Code Veronica.

“Gamers”: We want new IPs Also “Gamers”: doesn’t support new IPs.

Is anyone surprised?

We tried to tell them it wasn't good
