Xbox will join the growing trend of selling new blockbuster console games for $70 next year.

Of course, as is standard on Xbox, all of these will continue to be made available on day one as part of Xbox Game Pass. There's no suggestion today of any other pricing being changed - such as for that subscription service, or for Xbox hardware."We've held on price increases until after the holidays so families can enjoy the gift of gaming," a Microsoft spokesperson told Eurogamer this evening.

Other publishers selling new launches at $70 since the start of this console generation in late 2020 include Ubisoft, Take-Two - and, of course, Microsoft's main rival Sony.

Can’t remember the last time I bought a game for more than 40 euros. Key sites are lovely 👍

except starfield is on gamepass from day one.

Everyone should thank Sony and 2K for that.

In what way have they earned this price increase? AAA games get pushed to release in terrible states, with anti-consumer practices built into the games. This should not be industry standard, and no one should just be complacent. After the last few years, games should cost less

Things go up... Deal with it.

Loving game pass 👍

As long as the game is released polished and complete, fair enough. I remember when Street Fighter 2 on the SNES was released in the early 90’s and that was near to or over £100. Gamers have had it cheap for decades really.

Sure would be a massive shame if I had the patience to wait for the less buggy discounted version.

I'll be happy to join everyone else in NOT buying games at $70/£70 next year :)

Yeah but they will be on game pass so 🤷

Well considering Microsoft hardly releases first party games.

Welp time to wait for sale

Just in 2023 after developers pressure, based on a PS standard? Why not since 2020 like Sony?

Were barely getting $60 worth these days from all three. 😮‍💨

Next, gamepass prices increase.

Hard (game)pass.

Oh no! Anyway...

The hypocrisy in the comments. PlayStation bumps the prices theyre the villains. Xbox now announces it, 'oh yeah, it's justified' lol hypocrites.

Just like movies, tv-series and music it’s financially impossible for most to buy everything they want. And just like streaming services have made it much more accessible so will be the case more so then ever when it comes to game service subscriptions.

You were defending this exact same thing for Sony 2 years ago. Back in your lane you pathetic Sony simps.

Yeah but, gamepass

Personally I don't mind that, since I am a game pass ultimate subscriber and then just buy the games during a sale. 😉

I will join other customers in not buying $70 games.

That's just extra revenue for Microsoft why not sell to other platforms. Perhaps PS might open up sales on their exclusive games.
