Nintendo of Japan has updated its terms and conditions to allow its customer service staff to refuse repair requests if faced with harrassment.

An update to Nintendo's Japanese repair and warranty regulations in October warned customers they may no longer be eligible for a product repair or replacement if they are found to have behaved inappropriately to staff. This includes instances where a staff member has been threatened or verbally abused, or where a customer may have been deliberately wasting their time."We made the decision after concluding our customers would understand because of the reputation we have built of faithfully responding to them," Nintendo toldThe move has been welcomed by the Japanese government's ministry of health, labour and welfare, which called the stance"effective".

Well, if they keep bouncing not repaired units and take 6 months to fix a console, being rude is the bare minimum. They also refuse to repair if a customer gets angry? I call it bad service not customer-oriented and I think that's also illegal.

Good! people have no respect these days

It's common sense to NOT be rude to people, but then again, common sense isn't very common

Most companies should do this, but sadly it’ll run afoul of consumer laws for sure.

Nintendo stuff needs fixing?

Good

Honestly? Fair. Lots of service staff is treated like shit, so makes sense. Just sad that a company has to raise you as an adult.

🤷‍♂️This is how customer service should work.

Fair!

As it should be.

Just be polite and respectful, I wish we could use that policy on retail as well.

Good.

Good

Yeah, fair enough.

As they should! If you are rude to people why would they help you? I work in hospitality, I'm not lifting a finger if you are rude to me.

Understandable

Good. This is awesome to see. If only the rude people could get their accounts banned that would be good too.

I mean I worked in a supermarket for 5 years and know people can be absolute bells. But I'd hate to see this in the EU or States. ' may have been deliberately wasting their time' is far too objective. I'm not abusive or threatening but I can get confused sometimes and losing 1/2

Good.

What’s NintendoAmerica or any company gonna do when a CS rep doesn’t do there job and help? double edge sword turned into one, I guess 🤷‍♂️

Why would you ever need to be rude to staff?

I work in the service industry and we also have our limits. Thing is how it works here is that if you swear in general, we cannot do anything, hell you can even swear the company and we wont do anything. The second you swear at an employee and make it personal, then it is byebye

Be firm and assertive without being personal and rude when dealing with incompetent staff.

Never be rude or insulting to service personnel. These people want to help you and do not have to endure your frustration in addition to their work.

I know things can be frustrating but always try to remember you are dealing with another person that is trying to help you. It's not always as fast as you'd like but being rude gets you nowhere.

Valid

I'm polite to everyone no matter how much they drive me up the wall. 😭
