are going up very late tonight, lining up with its exact release date and time. It’s a significant game for Microsoft in 2024, and another high profile addition to Game Pass. But given that it’s been almost seven years since Hellblade 1, I think a bit of context is in order.
The first Hellblade is a condensed, story-based experience that come in around nine hours in length. It’s already been stated by its creators that Hellblade 2 will be similar, and is not some wildly dramatic size expansion, despite being a sequel. In terms of reviews, as a “prestige” game focused on visuals and storytelling, it reviewed well, though nothing record-setting. It has an 81 on its “main” PS4 platform. 83 on PC. It did the best on Xbox One at an 88, albeit with the least amount of reviews counted there.But it was a definite favorite among the critic class. It won Best Audio Design, the Games for Impact award and Best Performance from Senua herself, Melina Juergens in 2017.
