THE Department of the Interior and Local Government on Saturday recommended to the Office of the Ombudsman the preventive suspension of Bamban Mayor Alice Guo due to possible severe legal implications of her alleged connection with illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators in her town.'The DILG does not have the power to directly suspend or dismiss local officials.
'The DILG will continue to cooperate with the Ombudsman and other investigative bodies on this important issue, united in our shared mission of protecting our local institutions and furthering public interest,' he added.In March, a raid conducted by authorities in a POGO facility in Guo's town resulted in the rescue of 700 individuals, 202 of whom were Chinese and 73 others of various nationalities, who were allegedly forced to do illicit work online.
