Rochester, N.Y.— Meet the newest inductees into the World Video Game Hall of Fame.Thursday, five new games joined the 40 honorees in the Hall at The Strong

Five video games honored as inductees into the World Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong National Museum of Play, Thursday, May 9, 2024 “Videos game are the most important media of the 21st century," said Jon-Paul Dyson, vice president of exhibits at The Strong. "They are bigger than movies in terms of sales — but more then that, they are influencing how we see the world, how we experience the digital world.

The Strong currently houses more then 70,000 video games and related artifacts with hundreds of thousands more focusing on how games are made. “A place like Strong is one of the few places in the World that is working diligently to capture those very early, formative years in game development," said Ultima creator Richard Garriott.

Games were selected for their work in the video game industry including icon status, geographical reach, longevity and influence. “It was a labor of love," said Jeff Braun, co-founder of video game developer Maxis, which created Sim City. "It was something we were involved with. It was just fine. And everyone who was involved was just genuinely good people. But we never expected anything like this 35 years later that we would be inducted into the Hall of Fame.”
