Besides the new Yoga 9i, Lenovo also announced that it had refreshed it Legion sub-brand of gaming laptops. By that, we mean that this year’s Legion laptops

have been given the Intel 14th gen Raptor Lake Refresh treatment.

Virtually every Legion model will ship out Intel’s top-tier Core i9-14900HX CPU, which is basically a refurbished 14900K desktop CPU. That’s not all: Lenovo is also equipping these laptops with a new AI chip made for the series, aptly called LA1. But while the Yoga series get their speakers tuned by Bowers & Wilkins , the speakers on these laptops are still done up by Harman.

Moving on, this year’s Legion laptops are also fitted with Lenovo’s new Coldfront Hyperchamber cooling solution. The brand says that compared to last generation’s Coldfront solution, the new version is 2dB quieter and generation 2°C less heat. The combination of increased heat dissipation and a reduction in decibels also means that Lenovo is able to squeeze 25W more in performance, out of the laptops.

The Legion Pro laptops notwithstanding, what caught out eye were the non-Pro versions of the 9i and 7i. Technically speaking, both models are new additions to the lineup and are quite beefy, to boot. The Legion 9i is fitted with the 14900HX, has up to 64GB DDR5 RAM, and up to an RTX 4090. Its display has a resolution of 3200x2000 pixels and a 165Hz refresh rate. On a related note, the GPU itself has a 175W TGP.

The Legion 7i, while smaller than the Legion 9i, is a beast in and of itself. Like its counterpart, it also runs up to a 14900HX CPU, has up to 32GB DDR5 RAM, but tops out at an RTX 4070 with a 115W TGP. However, the implementation of the Coldfront Hyperchamber allows its two extra modes: Performance mode, which lets it draw up to 145W, and an Extreme Mode that pushes it further by pulling 175W. Its display is a 16:10 16-inch panel with 3200x2000 pixels, and a refresh rate of 165Hz.
