As the Hollywood writers strike comes to an end it seems likely that one for video games is just about to begin.

, which is exactly the sort of thing the Hollywood strikes are concerned about.

Many video game voice actors are members of the SAG-AFTRA union, which has already warned that the strikes could expand into. Now a vote on whether a strike should take place, if negotiations break down, has seen 98.32% of members approve strike action. This doesn’t mean a strike is any more likely to happen but it does mean that the union is entirely justified in threatening one, and that it can now be called at relatively short notice.

According to SAG-AFTRA, they’ve been in negotiations with publishers including Activision, EA, Epic Games, Insomniac Games, Take-Two, and WB Games since 2022. ‘Throughout the negotiations, the companies have refused to offer acceptable terms on some of the issues most critical to our members, including wages that keep up with inflation, protections around exploitative uses of artificial intelligence, and basic safety precautions,’ says a
