We’re not sure why there needed to be pictures – we can’t imagine Microsoft is happy about that -but it shows a tall cylindrical design, with a UBS-C port on the front and no disc drive. Instead, it’s got 2TB of internal storage to make up for it.
The new console will add Wi-FI 6E support, a Bluetooth 5.2 radio, and features a smaller 6nm die that takes 15% less electrical power ‘for improved efficiency’. In other words, it’s basically an Xbox Slim, even if it’s not clear exactly how big it is. It will, however, be exactly the same price as the existing Xbox Series X. That’s confirmed as $499 in the US and so will presumably be £479.99 in the UK., the console is codenamed Brooklin and there’s also a new ‘immersive’ controller to go along with, codenamed Sebille. The new controller has a two-tone colour scheme and built-in gyroscopic motion controls, unlike the current model. It will connect direct to the cloud, via Bluetooth 5.2.
The controller also has a picture accompanying it, with labels vaguely pointing at the grip that say ‘Precision haptic feedback’ and ‘VCA haptics double as speakers.’ Other features include ‘quieter’ buttons and thumbsticks, modular thumbsticks you can remove and swap for a different design, a removable and rechargeable battery, and the ability to turn it on simply by lifting it up.
