Nintendo just doesn't seem as bothered about its mobile games anymore -

"While we feel the importance of generating revenue and profit through our mobile business, our basic strategy with the business is to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo [intellectual property]," a spokesperson for the company toldThis was especially true for countries where Nintendo Switch isn't regularly available, the company continued.

Why has Nintendo's smartphone output slowed to a dribble? Nintendo did not address its lack of launches, but it seems like the success of Nintendo Switch has likely eased the pressure on Nintendo embrace the mobile gaming market as an alternative - calls for which grew increasingly loud during the company's barren Wii U console years.

Miitomo, Nintendo's initial smartphone effort, shut down in May 2018 after two years. Dr. Mario World was similarly killed off, two years after its 2019 launch. The gacha-powered Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and Mario Kart Tour remain online, and appear to generate a decent chunk of change.Become a Eurogamer subscriber and get your first month for £1

They were practically forced to enter this market because of investors/shareholders. Now that Switch was a major success and Fire Emblem Heroes is a gacha success they backed away from this now that thise groups are appeased.

That's a good thing imao

Isn't that a good thing

Good. I remember a time where they wanted to go all-in. They're backtracked on that statement with the success of the switch but still. That was back around the time when the current nintendo president was promoted. He's probably more aware of what he's doing now.

Thank goodness.

Bring back Miitomo

Their mobile games are shit. Dr Mario mobile game was horrible. They could’ve ‘legitimised’ mobile games. It’s sad but Apple are the only ones attempting to legitimise mobile gaming with their Apple Arcade.

With how successful the Switch and their games are, it's not surprising.

When they started releasing them in 2016 the company was in a very different state. I can see why massive success with the Switch would change their priorities, especially since most of their mobile games weren't exactly mega hits.

Leave it to MicroSoft (Activision) as that’s where the money is, for willing whales wallets and guilders to grind gameplay is.

Good. Fuck mobile gaming that isn’t on Steam Deck / Switch
