As part of an internal Hackathon project, some Microsoft devs apparently mocked up a new medal-based rewards system designed to work alongside the current Gamerscore system...

Microsoft's Hackathon 2022 event has reportedly seen a new award system created by some internal developers, dubbed 'Achievements 3.0,' which adds an extra layer that looks a little like PlayStation's trophy system.

Each year, Microsoft hosts an internal Hackathon, where employees from across the world can create their own concepts for services and technologies pertaining to the company's ecosystem. According to , this year's Hackathon 2022 saw a group of developers dummy up a reworked Xbox achievements system, adding system-wide medal rewards alongside traditional achievements. These Hackathons are usually private affairs held within the company and unavailable to the public, as the majority of the concepts never become real products. Windows Central was able to see a few of the projects this year, though, which look to have offered numerous ideas for new Xbox-focused systems.

One other submission, and one that is most relevant here, is the 'Achievements 3.0' project. According to Windows Central's report, the project was undertaken by a group of developers and designers, and it's designed to work in unison with the existing Gamerscore system. The idea for 'Achievements 3.

These are more hobby-based developments, so there is no guarantee that this system will become a reality, but it's still interesting to think about. If you'd like a better look at the concept, Windows Central has a short video for it, so it's definitely worth popping over there for a look. We'd love to know your thoughts on this pretty cool idea as well.

I like this idea.

Keep gamerscore and just add a number badge for completions, similar to PlayStation's Platinum is all I ask

Fail Spencer 😭

Please no. Gamerscore is all that I care about. That one number. If you add another number to that…? I think it’s a bad move and will definitely de motivate me. Bc that’s what I liked, achievements are ONE thing. Keep it simple for my monkey brain. Don’t go in depth. Pls.

Wish they still let us remove titles that are no longer completable.

Love that,they are listening
