Chinese regulators have reduced the amount of time players under the age of 18 can spend on online games to an hour on Fridays, weekends and holidays

The rules, published by the National Press and Publication Administration, said users under 18 will only be able to play games from 8pm to 9pm local time on those days, according to the Xinhua news agency.

Online gaming companies will be barred from providing services to them in any form outside those hours and need to ensure they have put real name verification systems in place, said the regulator, which oversees the country's video games market. Previously, China limited the total length of time that children could access online games to three hours on holiday or 1.5 hours on other days.

The new rules come amid a broad crackdown by Beijing on tech giants, such as Alibaba Group and Tencent Holdings, which has unnerved investors, hammering Chinese shares traded at home and abroad. The National Press and Publication Administration also told Xinhua it would increase the frequency and intensity of inspections for online gaming companies to ensure they were putting in place time limits and anti-addiction systems.

This is easier to understand the reaction to‘gaming addiction’ in the context of China being flooded with opium deliberately by jardine and Matheson for 70 years. In China addiction equates with colonialism by foreign forces.

One of the very few good ideas to come out of China.

The Chinese Communist Party wants to micromanage every aspect of life.

Yea right. RTE can't tell us the truth about what's happening in Ireland never mind China.

Many people make a living / career from gaming etc. It’s disturbing to hear people agree with this level of micro-management from government authorities. Parents should familiarise themselves with the myriad legitimate gaming industry career options currently open to their kids.

China also murder people that speak negative about there leader

As much as I dont endorse a lot of what the Chinese authorities do, I find it very difficult to disagree with them on this.

Good idea in theory, but choosing what people can and can't do , once it's not hurting others, is not a good thing.

are rte news aware of anti irish racist parade in scotland yesterday. hundreds of men in black marching thru scotlands biggest city centre chanting anti irish song ?
