A Cuyahoga County mother has sued makers of popular video games, saying they knowingly made her son addicted to gaming.CLEVELAND, Ohio— The mother of a 12-year-old Cuyahoga County boy has sued the companies that make popular video games, such as Fortnite and Madden, accusing them of intentionally designing games to make players addicted to them.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in federal court in Cleveland, is among a growing number of similar lawsuits filed across the country against popular game-makers such as Take-Two Interactive, Microsoft and EA Sports. “Claims that say otherwise are not rooted in fact and ignore the reality that billions of people globally, of all ages and backgrounds, play video games in a healthy, balanced way,” the statement said.
The companies employ behavioral psychologists and neuroscientists to help design games that addict players, according to the filing.
